Spaltholz Field Dedication

William R. Spaltholz was born October 5, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated from Washington High School, Milwaukee, with a B.S. La Crosse State Teachers College, and M.S. UW-Milwaukee. At Milwaukee Washington High School, Bill played football under Lisle Blackbourn.
After serving in the military Bill enrolled at UW-La Crosse. At La Crosse, he excelled in football, basketball and track. He was a member of the 1951 Cigar Bowl Team.
Bill coached at South Milwaukee High School 1951-82. His record was 150 Wins, 96 Losses, 6 Ties, seven conference championships and one undefeated season.
His entire coaching career was at South Milwaukee where he coached football for 30 years. He also assisted in track for fourteen years and wrestling one year. In 1976, he qualified a team for the first W.I.A.A. football play-offs. He coached the 1982 South All-Star football team to a victory over the North squad in the Shrine Game.
Bill was conference coach of the year in 1955 and 1961. He was inducted into the La Crosse Wall of Fame in 1983 and into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1986.
Professional memberships include: Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association, American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Wisconsin Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He is past president of the South Milwaukee Lions' Club and Grace Lutheran Church.
